
The JET Skills Development Entrepreneur Master Class took place on the 11th – 13th of February 2025 at the Wits Business School, Africa Energy Leadership Center Johannesburg. It was a great success with 70 Entrepreneurs joining the class for the full three days of lectures and group work.
The aim of the three-day master class was to acquaint entrepreneurs with South Africa’s Just Energy Transition Policy and Programme https://aweap.africa/jet-skills-development-programme/aweap-jet-programme/
The master class focused on renewable and non-renewable energy value chains, identifying entry points for first time players and those that want to expand their business in South Africa’s energy ecosystem.
The Entrepreneurs were divided up into syndicate groups and tasked with using the insights from the lectures to identify immediate business opportunities. These presentations were made to a panel of industry expert.
The panel of industry experts came from: SAIPPA, SANEA, Hitachi, SALGA, UN Women, SALGA, SANEDI, Gamechange Solar, Bayakha Infrastructure Partners, Sasol and Cheetahs in the Rain
The experts provided critical feedback on business development and gave advise on opportunities that were likely to enable entrepreneurs to generate annuity income – which is critical for sustainability

The master class also provided a networking session with participants from both the Entrepreneur Master series as well as the Utility Professional Series (https://aweap.africa/jet-skills-development-programme/aweap-jet-programme-entrepreneurs-utilities/) and key influential industry stakeholders in the energy and power sector.
All cohorts of the AWEaP JET Skills Development Programme are empower with insights and information that enable them to answer questions such as: What is the Just Energy Transition? What policy drives energy transition in South Africa, and how does this influence market opportunities? What financing instruments are available for entrepreneur who want to participate and grow in South Africa’s Energy Transition ecosystem? How can utilities design their own JET Strategies to drive socio economic development in their jurisdiction?
