Funding Partner
AWEaP has secured grant funding from the Accelerating Women’s Empowerment in Energy (AWEE) program, in collaboration with Winrock International.
This program is funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Energy Resources (ENR). The program supports the empowerment and professional development of women currently working or seeking to work in the clean energy sector to overcome historic gender-based marginalization and increase women’s participation in the clean energy workforce in South Africa.
The AWEE Grant program seeks to address the historic gender-based marginalization prevalent in the energy industry, with a primary focus on Kenya and South Africa. The overarching goal of AWEE is to empower and uplift women already engaged in or aspiring to join the clean energy sector, promoting their active participation in these critical domains.
The grant objectives encompass support for small and medium-sized enterprises in the clean energy sector, with a specific focus on gender-disaggregated data to track progress. Furthermore, the program aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of individuals trained in clean energy, fostering greater expertise within the sector. It also facilitates participation in forums, conferences, and workshops that enable the sharing of best practices and capacity-building within the energy, power, and extractives fields.
The AWEE grant represents a transformative opportunity to reshape the clean energy sector in South Africa by encouraging gender empowerment, skills development, and leadership among women professionals and entrepreneurs.
In alignment with AWEE, the AWEaP JET Skill Development Programme for Entrepreneurs will prioritize the inclusion of both women and men, with a ratio of 90% women and 10% men.
