Fostering sustainable economic growth through an inclusive, and diverse supply chain:
Sasol is committed to building a supply chain that reflects the diversity and dynamism of South Africa’s business landscape. By actively empowering historically disadvantaged small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and ensuring that they have equitable access to market opportunities and resources. This inclusive approach not only strengthens individual enterprises but also contributes to a robust economic foundation that supports innovation, job creation, and small business sustainability.

Empowering Women-Owned Enterprises:
Sasol ESD is committed to advancing gender inclusion and promoting sustainable development by fostering access for women-owned businesses to thrive within South Africa’s energy and industrial sectors. Recognising the transformative impact of women-led enterprises, Sasol ESD has developed targeted programmes that equip female entrepreneurs with the skills, resources, and networks they need to grow and succeed in these competitive sectors. This commitment extends beyond individual business growth, aiming to reshape the landscape for women entrepreneurs on a larger scale contributing to broader social and economic transformation in accordance with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).

Accelerating SME Inclusion in the Just Energy Transition:
As South Africa embarks on its journey toward a Just Energy Transition, Sasol recognises the critical role that SMEs can play in developing sustainable solutions and new technologies. Driving programmes to empower SMEs to bring innovative, localised solutions to the market, contributing directly to the goals of SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

Sasol’s commitment to empowering small businesses in South Africa’s energy transition underscores its broader mission to drive inclusive growth and sustainable development. By aligning its initiatives with the SDGs, Sasol aims to build a resilient SME sector that can support South Africa’s shift toward a sustainable energy future while fostering a more inclusive economy.

Academic Wits Business School African Energy Leadership Centre (AELC)
Wits

AWEaP entered an MOU with Wits Business School African Energy Leadership Centre (AELC). The centre delivered the academic element of the programme. Conceptualised by industry visionaries who recognised the urgent need to address skill shortages in a rapidly evolving sector, the Centre aimed to respond effectively. Africa’s immense yet untapped energy potential and some of the world’s fastest economic growth rates faced limitations due to inadequate energy supply. This resulted in frequent brownouts and blackouts, hampering productivity even in the most developed economies. The AELC collaborated with AWEaP to deliver and enhance the academic programme, aligning with South Africa and Africa’s Just Energy Transition Skills Development needs.
